2010 Alfa Romeo Centenary.

Alfa is currently coordinating all the international events that will mark the celebrations for its 100th anniversary. The Arese headquarters have already hosted several meetings with Alfa clubs from all over the world. And Alfa Romeo will hold a press conference in June 2009 to announce the official celebration program that will touch Monza, Arese, and the whole city of Milan...

On the occasion of the centenary celebrations, RIAR wants to present the city of Milan and all Alfa enthusiasts with a tangible tribute to one of the finest examples of Lombard industry. An extraordinary company where legendary cars and men were forged. Alfa chose the emblem of Milan as its logo, and yet no trace of its factories, activities, accomplishments, heroes and feats is left in this city... A most undeserved oblivion. RIAR will therefore realize a grand bronze sculpture, for which Centro Stile Alfa Romeo will design the mould, to be displayed downtown in a scenic and highly visible location. As a sign of appreciation for this initiative, the Municipality of Milan has offered its full cooperation and support.
The monument, inspired by the 1900 "Disco Volante", will be a full scale or larger replica of this 1952 car as seen through the eyes of a famous Italian sculptor. It will rest on a plinth designed by Milanese architect Monica Mariani. A memento of the past but also a hymn to the future symbolized by modern lines expressing speed and progress. A plate on the plinth will retrace the most significant moments in Alfa history and remember RIAR and the sponsors. A numbered series of 99 bronze reproductions on a 1:10 scale, signed by Centro Stile Alfa Romeo and by the artist, will be offered for sale through one of the most renowned art organizations. A rich monograph/catalogue presenting the history of Centro Stile Alfa Romeo and the pictures of the monument creation process will also be released.
To accomplish such an ambitious undertaking RIAR will rely on the support of a few sponsors, some of which have already joined the project, but most of all on the participation of the numerous ALFA lovers and of our Members, whose names will appear on a parchment that will be placed in a container at the base of the monument.
