Federated Clubs
The nature of my bond with the Biscione is not only
professional: I met some of my dearest friends under its
green Quadrifoglio.
To this very day, whenever I relive the memories of the time
I got to spent with Antonio Ascari, Giuseppe Campari, Ugo
Sivocci and Tazio Nuvolari I'm overwhelmed by a heartfelt
nostalgia.
Mixed feelings of joy and sadness fill my soul when I think
of what I call my "Milanese period"...
Alfa was for me, and for many others, a great school of
life. It taught me my first and most important lessons. But
at Alfa I also experienced the thrill of giving.
The kind of giving that knows no limits nor exceptions: the
Cavallino gave many victories to the Biscione, its history
forever intertwined with that of its prestigious ancestor.
Enzo Ferrari - 1985
Enzo Ferrari devoted his entire life to cars, turning a mere
tool into the object of a fervid passion that later became a
legend: the legend of Alfa Romeo...
Alfa Romeo and Registro Italiano Alfa Romeo: Historical Highlights
Alfa Romeo, born in 1910 from the bankruptcy of Darraq and
the passion of a few audacious entrepreneurs, endured and
overcame two devastating wars thanks to the very spirit that
had inspired it. Despite the continuous struggle to keep its
balance between sports achievements and management problems,
it succeeded in building such an aura of myth around its
cars that even Henry Ford used to take off his hat when he
saw an Alfa.... Alfa, the first letter of the alphabet. A for
Automobile, because Alfa is Auto history.
In 1962 only few (very few) people were interested in
classic cars. There were only two Clubs in Italy, both
founded by extraordinary men, Federazione Italiana
Automotoveicoli d'Epoca (FIAME) in Milan and Veteran Car
Club Italiano in Turin, which later merged into ASI (1966).
This is the year Registro Italiano Alfa Romeo was
established in Rome by baron Giorgio Franchetti and by
Francesco Santovetti, who also served as the club's first
president. The club was originally based in Rome but,
acknowledging its huge marketing potential, in 1968 Giuseppe
Luraghi, the then Alfa Romeo President, requested and
obtained that it be relocated to Milan inside Alfa's
Portello headquarters (Via Gattamelata 5). R.I.A.R. has
accompanied Alfa Romeo ever since, moving with it to the new
Arese Headquarters in the 70s, sharing its eventful history,
and becoming the most respected and reliable point of
reference for the numerous Alfa Clubs all over the world.
Why join Registro Italiano Alfa Romeo?
-
Registro Italiano Alfa Romeo is one of the first
classic car associations in Italy (this year it celebrates
its 47th anniversary) and has developed an extensive and
solid experience in the field;
-
Registro Italiano Alfa
Romeo shares its headquarters with the Carmaker it
represents and is an integral part of Alfa history like no
other association in the world;
-
For almost 50 years
Registro Italiano Alfa Romeo has acted as point of reference
for the numerous Alfa Clubs all over the world;
-
Registro Italiano Alfa Romeo owns an invaluable
archive and has full access to the Alfa Romeo/Fiat Auto
Historic Archives and Documentation Centre: the Manager of
these facilities traditionally also serves as R.I.A.R.
Conservator, like Alfa historian Luigi Fusi;
-
Registro
Italiano Alfa Romeo, thanks to its internal Technical
Commission, homologates classic Alfas and certifies their
historic value always keeping an eye on today's models;
-
Registro Italiano Alfa Romeo is represented in the
most prestigious international automobile associations (FIA,
ACI,...), is federated with ASI, and sits in all Government
Commissions operating in its field;
-
Registro Italiano
Alfa Romeo can assist its members and provide expert advice
in matters falling under its competence;
-
Because
certifications and homologations issued by Registro Italiano
Alfa Romeo guarantee the authenticity of a vehicle, setting
authoritative standards of originality;
-
Because being
a member means joining a Community, not only virtual but
also made up of real people of all ages who share the same
passion and enthusiasm and are happy to live them out during
the national and international events R.I.A.R. organizes
every year;
-
Because being a member means becoming a
part of Alfa Romeo's centennial history and sharing this
unique experience with us.
In response to the growing passion for Alfa Romeo and the increasing number of members
worldwide, R.I.A.R. has federated other Alfisti clubs offering them assistance, advice,
technical and historical information and the chance to take part in our social events.
